Measure your dog lying down, from nose to base of tail, and pick the size they can stretch out on. Small is about 50 x 40 cm, Large about 90 x 50 cm and XL about 95 x 80 cm. Between sizes? Size up.
Sharp claws and enthusiastic chewing can puncture gel mats, so keep nails trimmed and supervise at first. If the cover is punctured, remove the mat.
Use it indoors or in the shade, because direct sun warms the gel and reduces the cooling effect. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry. Please don't machine wash it.
Most dogs find a cool spot quickly, but some take a day or two to get curious. Placing it where they already like to rest (and a treat on top) helps. Fair warning: the cat may try to claim it first.
